Suns' Head Coach Jeff Hornacek Surprised by Team's 5-2 Start

Ronald Martinez/Getty Images(PHOENIX) -- The Phoenix Suns weren't expected to compete in the ever-improving Western Conference this season, but somehow find themselves at 5-2 to start the season. Even their rookie head coach, Jeff Hornacek, is surprised.

"Am I surprised with the start? Maybe a little bit," Hornacek said on Sunday. "Just because when you look at our guys, starting with Miles Plumlee who only played 50 minutes last year, to [Goran Dragic] being hurt, to Eric Bledsoe being a backup (previously). You know these guys are young players, but you don't really know how it's going to work when you get out on the court."

After the team's 101-94 win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday night, the Suns find themselves in first place in the Pacific division.

Bledsoe has been the main spark for the team after the Suns traded for him during the offseason after previously spending his entire three-year career with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Through seven games, Bledsoe has averaged 20.9 points per game.
