UConn is Championship Bound
(ARLINGTON, Texas) -- Top-Ranked Florida hadn't lost a game since UConn beat them on Dec. 2 and now the Huskies did it again by downing the Gators in the National Championship Semifinal 63-53 Saturday, sending UConn to its fourth title game since 1999.
DeAndre Daniels had 20 points and 10 rebounds for UConn (31-8) which ended Florida's 30-game winning streak.
The Huskies used a combination of defense and sharp-shooting to win. UConn made 55.8 percent of its shots from the field while holding Florida to 38.8 percent shooting.
Florida (36-3) jumped out to an early 16-4 lead, but UConn answered with a 21-6 run to finish the first half with a three point lead.
Senior center Patric Young had 19 points and five rebounds for Florida which only had three assists in the game.
"UConn was very good with their pressure on our guards and we didn't convert points," Florida head coach Billy Donovan said. "They scored a lot on as well. So all the credit goes to them."
Shabazz Napier, who has been one of the stars in UConn's championship run, had 12 points, six assists and four steals in the win.
"We have been in a lot of dog fights," Napier said. "We are just an experienced group. We believe in each other and continue to believe in each other. ... We are going to win. That is what we do."
