Zimmerman, Price Out For All-Star Game
(NEW YORK) -- Washington Nationals starting pitcher Jordan Zimmerman and Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher David Price will miss Tuesday night’s All-Star game at Target Field in Minnesota.
Zimmerman was removed from Friday night’s start against the Philadelphia Phillies after pitching just 3 1-3 innings because of a right biceps injury. He will be replaced on the National League roster by Miami Marlins starting pitcher Henderson Alvarez.
Price had his Saturday start pushed back to Sunday because of an illness, making him ineligible to play in the mid-summer classic. Seattle Mariners closer Fernando Rodney will take Price’s spot on the American League roster.
In 19 starts this season, Alvarez is 6-3 with a 2.63 ERA and three shutouts.
Rodney is 1-3 with a 1.98 ERA. He has converted 27 saves in 29 opportunities.
