» | | 9/14/10: A Home for All Seasons
With the recent events in our economy, it is more important than ever to take care of your biggest investment – your home. Most large purchases come with an owner’s manual but not your house. Many homeowners feel overwhelmed by the challenges that come with home maintenance. Others may be afraid of being taken advantage of by dishonest repairmen. Most vulnerable are new, single, and elderly homeowners.
University of Illinois Extension is sponsoring “A Home For All Seasons training for HCE units.” The program will cover 5 “must-do” repairs, suggested low-cost home repairs, home repair safety, and how to decide if you should hire someone to do the work.
Debbie Bartman and Susan Taylor, Extension Educators, will also discuss how to find a reliable contractor, home repair fraud, how to report a complaint, and what to expect from your homeowners insurance. Handouts included with the program include the life expectancy of home appliances and mechanical systems, and a home appliance purchase worksheet.
The program will be held via teleconference on Tuesday, September 14, 2010, from 1:30-3:00 pm at Marion County Extension office, 1404 E. Main, Salem. There is no cost for HCE members and only a $4 fee for non-HCE members. University of Illinois provides equal opportunity in programs and employment. If you need reasonable accommodations to attend this program, please call 618-548-1446.
