The Salem City Council has presented certificates of appreciation to those who helped the city host the Professional Kennel Club's World Hunt that concluded over the weekend.
Mayor Leonard Ferguson says he heard nothing but positive comments from city residents and those involved in the coon hunt about the event. "I hope to see them here for a number of years," he says. "I don't recall ever seeing a group of people all come here at one time - this is good for Salem."
Those receiving certificates were David and Mary Dial of the Marion County Coon Hunters, Jill Combs and Tracey McDaneld of the City Staff, Tourism Board Chair Bob Haney, Councilman Steve Huddlestun and his wife Kae, and Marion County Fair Board President Ronnie Wilkins. David Dial told the council he felt there was a 'good chance' that the World event would return to Salem next fall.
