Marion County Supervisor of Assessments Patty Brough says assessment changes for the tax year 2009 are being published today. The changes can be found in the November fourth edition of the Shopper's Weekly newspaper and on WJBDradio.com. The assessed values are subject to equalization by the Supervisor of Assessments, revision and equalization by the board of review and equalization by the Illinois Department of Revenue.
Anyone who considers their assessment to be incorrect may file a complaint in writing with the Marion COunty Board of Review. Complaint forms are available at Brough's office, Room 101 of the Marion County Courthouse in Salem. The deadline to file is four pm on December third. The 2009 assessments will apply to the tax bills to be collected in 2010. Brough says among the reassessments completed this year was all of property around Lake Centralia and Raccoon Township.
Brough has also announced the township multipliers that will be used this year to bring property to one-third of its value. Centralia Township has been assigned a negative multiplier, which will reduce assessments two percent before tax levies are applied. Brough says the negative multiplier is the first applied in a number of years and is the result of a reassessment of property in Centralia Township and a drop in real estate sales prices.
Patoka, Carrigan and Odin Township will all have a one multiplier, which will result in no adjustment of property assessments. Salem and all other townships in Marion County will have a 1.0335 multiplier applied. That means assessments will be increased just over three percent. However, Brough notes the final tax bills depend on the amount of taxes levied by taxing bodies.
Brough says all farmland assessment next year will increase ten-percent. The yearly farmland assessment is based on a productivity formula from the Illinois Department of Revenue.
Extra copies of the assessment change publication are available at the Shopper's Weekly at 301 East Broadway in Centralia or the Supervisor of Assessment office in the Marion County Courthouse.
